Tim Follin

I'd like to dedicate the blog's first article to a great composer, sometimes forgotten but always loved by chiptune music big fans.

In answer to the question "Who's the sound master on 8-bit hardware ?" ; the adepts will correctly say Tim Follin. This british genius of the electronic composition give to the genre the most beautiful pieces. In 1989 he is charged in arrange Ghouls'n Ghosts music on the Commodore 64, one of the only work of his career which gives him satisfaction. Curiously, most of the games he worked on were generally known for their absolute mediocrity or difficulty to play, but also and paradoxally for their good old tunes which push hardware ressources at the outside (Silver Surfer ; Treasure Master ; Solstice). Tim worked with his brother Geoff Follin for Software Creations (wherein was his other brother Mike Follin as a developper). Recently, after many years away from videogames, the musician is back to show his own project of interactive movie financed on Kickstater : Contradiction (PC ; Smartphones)

Please enjoy with a particular taste and distinction the following musics :

Silver Surfer, on the NES :

Solstice, always on the NES :

Pictionary, inevitably on the NES :

Bionic Commando, obviously on the... Commodore 64 (adapted from the arcade) :

Time Trax, on the Genesis / Mega Drive ; a game unfortunately never released :

To conclude ; Ecco The Dolphin : Defender of the Future :

(so spacey... or rather so floaty... ba-dum-tss)
